HOW TO BECOME A BETTER READER
The biggest complaint about reading is I don’t have the time. Try out an audiobook that you can pop in your earbuds at the gym, on the way to work, or while you’re cleaning up around the house. For many, an audiobook is so much more of an immersive experience since you can really hear the words being read to you. I love Audible for this very reason!
2. Keep a commonplace book
I like to jot down passages that strike me and keep them in a commonplace book. I categorize the passages based on what they mean to me, whether they’re about motivation or time managing, etc. Doing this adds an extra layer of interaction to your reading experience and gives you something to look back on later!
3. Read books you’ll actually enjoy
You don’t have to grab the big, dusty old “classic” books from the top shelf in order to be a reader. If you don’t like novels, try out a memoir! Or even a graphic novel or a magazine. Reading is such an amazing habit to form in order to broaden your mindset, so anything goes! There’s no “right thing” to read as long as you’re reading something you truly enjoy.
4. Commit to reading while you’re on the go!
If you’re someone like me who is constantly traveling, make it a habit to bring a book with you. Reading on a plane or in the car (as a passenger, of course) is a great way to pass time!
5. Share your book choices with others
Make reading a social experience! You can join a book club, or just share what you’re currently reading with friends on social media. Start a conversation around books that you think your social circle might also enjoy, and you can start to form better habits as a group.
