Most of us are adjusting to working remotely for the foreseeable future, and we don’t all have the most work-friendly home environments.
Maybe you live with family members or roommates and they don’t operate on the same schedule as you.
You might still have household duties popping up (about thatโฆย where do all these dirty dishes come from?!๐ค) and the distractions seem to be around every corner.
No matter where you’re working from, try these tips to maximize your focus and get your best work done!
1. Designate a space ๐
In order to be efficient at home, it’s important to have a space that is meant for work. Even if you don’t have a home office, use what you do have to make the best of the circumstances. ๐ข
Clean off the kitchen table and set up shop for the day. ๐ฝ
Clear the living room clutter and occupy the coffee table. โ๏ธ
Make sure to communicate with the people around you that you need this space for a certain amount of time in order to get your work done, and be consistent. ๐
Training your mind to enter work-mode by adjusting your surroundings does wonders for your focus.๐
2. Manage your time โ๏ธ
Don’t let yourself slack off just because no one is there to make sure you’re working. ๐
Block out your schedule for the day and stick to the agenda you’ve made for yourself. ๐
I use some timer cubes (check them out!) to keep track of how long I’m spending on different projects (and they keep me from checking the clock on my phone to see how much time has passed!). ๐ฒ
Stick to your routine just as you would if you were at the office, and you’ll be less likely to stray away from your tasks.๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ญ
3. Block out the distractions ๐ง
When I need to really keep my head down and focus, I turn on some lyric-free music to help keep me in the right headspace and prevent my mind from wandering elsewhere. This always helped me stay laser focused! โก๏ธ
Do what you need to do to minimize distractions! Shut the door to your workspace, turn on some music (or even just white noise!), and get to work. ๐จ๐ปโ๐พ
